No smoke and mirrors. No jargon. Just honest marketing that works. We believe the best work happens when we collaborate.
We’ve all been through the wringer with the Covid-19 pandemic and it has sadly affected many small businesses across the United Kingdom.
Many people are running small businesses (which is great) and so we would like to give you some tips on how to optimise your SEO.
Before we explain in more detail how to improve your SEO for your business, please make sure you have registered a ‘Google My Business’ page and have access to the Google Search Console.
Google My Business provides you with the ability to list your business location on Google Maps and local search results. You can display important information about your business, including the opening/closing times, contact details or a link to your website.
Here are some links for both Google Search Console & Google My Business.

Do you have a ‘Google My Business’ page? If not please, click the link above and set one up for your business (you won’t regret it, trust us)
Having a Google My Business page is fundamental to any industry if you want to be discovered on Google; especially for local search. It’s also the easiest way to gain any presence on Google.
How does it work? Let’s say you’re Googling “plumbers near me?” All the plumbers that have a Google My Business page are going to show up on your search (as it’s based upon Google My Business). If they’re not on Google My Business, it’s unlikely they’re going to be discovered, by you and your search. A business lead missed. And why it’s important to have a Google My Business page.
Having a Google My Business account is something we recommend. It’s free to use!
We love blogging (as you know) and we bang on about it all the time to everyone. If you have a small business website YOU should blog! Blogging first and foremost creates content on your website, and with regular content, you will find users coming back to your website for more; especially if it’s engaging and useful.
Blogging also creates more pages on your website that can be indexed; which means more opportunities to rank.
With blogging, you’re creating trustworthiness and authority. If you’re using social media for your business (we hope you are) then you can share the blogs in Facebook Groups and LinkedIn; creating more domain authority.
Using the ‘Google Search Console’ is one of the most comprehensive free tools out there if you’re a website owner. Google Search Console has many features, such as word ranking, search terms, and how many clicks you receive per search term.
Some tips for when you’re using Google Search Console:

Customer reviews are the biggest form of currency for any business owner. They show other people what your business is about and why people love you. Don’t fear a bad review. You can’t please everyone and it’s a chance to make right (and show others you are open to being better).
How do reviews affect SEO though? Well, if you think about it, customer reviews are like content, and we all know Google loves content. Every time someone reviews you, Google will come back to your website because it’s fresh content!
How else do customer reviews benefit your SEO? Google has developed an understanding of reviews as a user would. When you search for an item on Google, or a product, you will often see a star rating; pushing higher ratings towards the top.
SEO has changed a LOT over the past five years, and it’s going to continue. We know SEO can be time-consuming, but following some of these tips will help your business have more presence on Google; and other search engines.
