How to improve your social media presence in 2025

Blue Cheese Digital > Blog Standard > Business > How to improve your social media presence in 2025

Social media it’s everywhere and it’s here to stay.

Whether you’re a small business or a large brand, having a social media presence is a must. If you’re fighting the tidal wave, don’t. Failing to get social means you’re going to get left behind.

We often get told: “we’re on social media, but we can’t gain any sales or reach?”

First off, if you’re using social media and think that atomically means you’re going to gain tons of sales overnight, think again. Social media will for sure boost your brand awareness and in turn your sales (especially with a clear strategy and great content). But, be prepared to establish your brand or business socially, first.

Let’s look at some methods to enhance your social media presence, boost your reach and gain more sales.

Are you in the right social space?

Run through all the social media channels you’re aware of. Here’s a few to start you off: TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat…the list goes on.

Just because there are ALL these channels available, doesn’t mean you need to adopt a shotgun approach. Think quality over quantity.

A really common mistake we see with businesses moving into social media, is spreading themselves super thin.

You’re not necessarily “missing out” by not being on a social channel (yet). In fact, if you bite off more than you can chew, chances are you will start with enthusiasm and burn-out pretty quick. It will become too much. Moreover, it isn’t as simple as dumping content on every channel available.

WHO are your customers? WHAT do they expect, want or need from a brand or business like yours? WHERE are they interacting socially?

We see lots of brands that say “Oh, we’re on Tiktok!” Great, but is your customer base and audience on there?

It’s important to do your research and find the correct social media platform for your business. Look for topics and other brands/competitors on that platform. If they’re doing well, take note of what they’re doing!

Once you’ve selected your preferred social media platform, it’s time to brand your page. With your social media profiles, it’s crucial to be consistent across the board. Make sure you have the same logo, colour combinations & your content is similar across all channels (where appropriate).Customers need to be able to search your brand/business name and know instantly that it’s you, via a logo or thumbnail pic. Having a brand that looks consistent shows that you’re a professional outfit and also helps users know they are in the right place and looking at the right business.

Engage your audience

Social media is a place where people want to engage, learn and share. People flock to social media for information. They want to find something that they wouldn’t see elsewhere, perhaps something that has gone viral.

What they don’t want is to be spammed with endless “buy our amazing product” at every turn. Sure, a call-to-action post about an amazing product has it place. But try to think about the journey. It isn’t just about your business. What can you offer a social user? Can you solve a problem they have? Perhaps you have a great how-to video with useful tips or life hacks? Build rapport and trust. THEN advise them of how you can improve their lives; be it through your service or product. Social media is a relationship and no-one wants to date a narcissist.

Connect with your audience and allow them to feel attached to your brand on a deep level. You can do this in multiple ways. For example: do you have a new product release and are unsure of a specific colour for your product? Ask your social media community. Involve them. They will share their opinion, which in-turn creates engagement. They feel connected.

Here are some other ideas:

    • Create polls
    • Create a quiz
    • Host live videos, with a Q&A feature
    • Create value driven and interesting content
    • Write blog articles and share your opinion

  • When your social media audience is engaging with your brand, you will gain insights into your audience. You’ll learn what they like, dislike and other opinions, too. These insights are priceless. You can then go on to create targeted campaigns that convert into potential sales in the future.

    Be consistent and post regularly

Again, we often find that brands and businesses start with the best of intentions and then burn-out. The enthusiasm see’s regular posts at first, but over time the posts decrease, and then (usually) they just stop.

Tumbleweed for the customer. Are you still in business?

If you are posting once in a blue moon and still expecting to see results and success, think again. It doesn’t happen like that, unfortunately.

Finding the time to post is tricky, isn’t it? And then there’s the content ideas…finding or creating artwork; making videos; argh. We get it. That’s why social media managers exist, in-house roles, or via agencies. We need them. It is essential for business.

Consistency is king. As humans we rather like structure. We get used to what we are used to. So, if a brand we love (like yours) is feeding us three posts each week, we come to expect it. When it suddenly stops, we think something’s up, or we just…lose interest and move to a competitor.

This is also why you should invest in a social media strategy. Having a social media strategy will help you plan out your content and achieve your social media goals. Having a strategy avoids last minute post dumps, and the end of week panic: ” but we haven’t posted anything on our social media channels”.

    Keep on trend

One thing you will find with social media is that there are always lots of trends. It’s essential to be mindful of what is going on on social media or if there is a specific event that is happening. Especially if it aligns with your brand or offering. Utilise it to your advantage.

A good way to keep your finger on the pulse with trends, is to browse both Facebook and Twitter. Click on ‘What’s Happening’ (on Twitter) and you’ll find all the latest trends and talking points. Can you weigh in?

If you’re not keen on surfing social media, or simply don’t have the time, why not set up a Google Alert. This allows you to add in any term that you want. This could be about your brand/business or a subject that is related to your industry. You will then receive notifications relating to the subject and a link to a website featuring information on your chosen subject.

    Play the long game

Social media is so much more than vanity metrics. Some people get consumed with the “Likes = Success” approach and try to buy a following by purchasing followers (shudders). If you’re doing this, park your ego and ask yourself if you’re really achieving what you want? Are you seeing results or just injecting the likes? Are the likes even real?

Those strategies in 2022 just don’t work.

People are savvy. And believe us when we say they can distinguish a real person or a robot commenting on your posts. Not a good look.

We understand the attraction; it’s the desire to grow quickly. We all want 1000’s of followers and 1000’s of engagements, but it just doesn’t happen like that anymore on social media; not immediately. Provide useful, engaging content for your audience, build rapport, be consistent and they’ll provide for you. Whether it be a referral, a purchase or sharing your brand to a wider audience.

At the start of social media, it was very different. Businesses could grow quickly as they appeared on everyone’s newsfeed. It is harder now. Facebook’s algorithm (for example) is very different now. Businesses find it much harder to appear consumers timelines and the turnover of content is rapid.

Try to focus on organic growth. Organic growth is the most authentic and effective way of building a presence on social media. It allows you to get real data from your target audience. Allowing you to tailor your approach and serve your audience better.

    Summary

Increasing a social media presence isn’t an easy feat. Especially in 2022.

But if you follow our advice and focus on being consistent, keeping on trend, and investing in a social media strategy. you will be a success socially.

See beyond the vanity metrics such as ‘likes and followers. Instead, concentrate on figures such as engagement, reach & impressions.

    1. Engagement – This measures the number of times people took an action on your post/page. These include clicks, shares, comments and reactions.
    2. Reach – This is the number of people who have seen your post/page.
    3. Impressions – The number of times a post was seen. If an individual has seen your post 3 times, this is 3 impressions. If this was ‘reach’ it would be 1.
