No smoke and mirrors. No jargon. Just honest marketing that works. We believe the best work happens when we collaborate.
Social media doesn’t stand still. It is anything but static. There is so much more to “being social” than simply creating a page or an account for your small business.
Let me hit you with a stat… social media users have reached upwards of 3.484 billion* across the globe, this is equivalent to about 45% of the world’s population.
Now let me hit you with a question…can your small business afford to overlook social media marketing? You can now reach more people (and potential customers) than ever!
Below are some short and sweet (but important) tips and points to consider for your small business on social media. (If you need more help with your social media marketing, fill in the form at the bottom and we can help!)
User habits and behaviour changes, as do social platforms and popularity. People are getting pickier about who they follow and where they spend their time, socially. In fact, you may hear of your friends or family saying they are going to do a “digital detox” or have a “social media holiday”. To avoid people wanting to include your social media in this detox, be meaningful.
If you aren’t providing value or giving your audience a positive experience, there’s a strong possibility you will be un-followed; or have very limited impact from a marketing perspective. Don’t be afraid to share, and by this we are talking about great content such as blogs, videos, offers, ideas and inspiration (especially if you’re a local business). People often fear giving anything away for free, but it could be the catalyst to more customers (and often is).
When we say, “make sure you’re meaningful”, start by asking yourself these q’s:
This point is key. Having worked with many brands and businesses on their social media, we have learnt a thing or two. Something we have heard a lot is the “need for likes”. We like to call this vanity metrics, and we’ll explain why.
There is more to social media (especially if you’re a small business) than just ‘likes’ or a large following. In fact, it doesn’t do your business any good to have large social media followings if your engagement levels are practically non-existent. Likes can be bought, and often are; but you need to encourage and cultivate interactions that go beyond a like or share. You need an audience who are looking to engage with your business, and vice-versa.
Create a strategy. Who are your customers or target market? Where will they be; is one social platform more suited to your business than another? How can you interact with them and create leads or potential?
Social Media is a broad term this days, with new platforms popping up all the time and popularity and trends changing all the time. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are generally the core platforms used by B2C brand. Social media can be time consuming too, and often small businesses avoid it completely (through fear of time constraints) or do it badly (we all know that page that hasn’t had a post in a year – very social).
For this reason (and many others), one size does not fit all and that’s ok. You also don’t need to be on every social media platform. Having a shot-gun approach can mean businesses are spread too thinly, across multiple platforms; diluting quality.
People are discerning and savvy. Know your market and where you should be, then focus and watch social media marketing raise your brand awareness and grow your sales!
Small business marketing can be a real struggle for business owners, particularly in the early stages. We have seen it and worked with people first hand, we get it. In a competitive landscape you are faced with the task of getting the word out on a limited budget. It can be tricky to know what the best-value strategies are to grow your brand, your customers, and kickstart your revenues.
